Search Engine Optimization Tips
by Jacob Louis

December 29th, 2009

Search-Engine-OptimizationI have been noticing lately just how important titles are for search engine optimization.  You should have page titles on your site for whatever it is you want high google ranking for.  Clearly, this isn’t the only thing to consider, although it does make a huge difference.  I find that wordpress sites are great for getting up in the search engines since every tag you add to your posts is automatically made into a page with that title.  It’s good to keep your titles short and to the point, and pack your keywords in a the beginning of the title.

Here are some other good places to put keywords:

  • Alt tags on images
  • Headings (h1-h6 tags)
  • Article content (bold keywords)
  • Meta Keywords
  • Links
  • File names
  • Unordered/Ordered Lists

If you put your keywords in all these places it will surely help a lot.

Another thing that really helps  is getting in-bound-links from other related pages and articles.  It’s also a good idea to have your keyword in those links.  For example if you website is about fishing you would want the word fishing to link to your website from other fishing websites.  I also read somewhere that linking to websites with a high rank can actually enhance yours as well.

Another tip is to have a site map, because google can crawl your page easier if you have one.  Also, you may want to make a robots.txt file on your server.

If you have any other insights about search engine optimization go ahead and leave them as comments.  I appreciate feedback from other users experiences with this science.  If you need help with SEO, I am your guy.  I have 11 years experience building websites that make it to the first page of google.  Be sure to check out my web design portfolio to see examples of my work.

Your Website is Your Marketing Tool
By Wayne M Peters

December 11th, 2009

Many people believe that having a website means a quick setup with some photos uploaded and then the site is done. What they do not realize is that website design can be a complex process that requires a certain skill set.

Recently I had a potential client tell me that I should design their website for a very small Cheap Website - Money Mattersfee because he had several other web design companies quote only a few hundred dollars. That may have been true, but what he did not realize is that every site that web design goes through a process that involves several time consuming steps and that no shortcuts should be taken in the process.

Since your website is your marketing tool and represents your business, it should look at least as good as your business really is.

So, what should you think about when reviewing your own website design?

1) Does the website clearly identify what your product or service is?

Which Way?One of the most encouraging methods of having someone leave a website as quickly as possible is the website that has no clear direction. If the navigation system leaves a person unsure where to go on the website, then it is best not to even have a website. After all, why would you want to confuse your potential customers? A website needs to present information and content in an organized and well planned fashion.

2) Are the graphics representative of your company?

You may have the most attractive website, but if it does not reflect your corporate branding, then it probably will not have a positive brand recognition impact. Just as a website needs to be functional and perform the way that you require it to for your business’ purpose, it needs to be designed to fit within your company’s image.

3) Would you tell your most important potential client to go to your website to learn about what you can offer them?

Just as you would not have a messy and disorganized showroom floor, or a lousy business card, your website should be a reflection of your excellent business practices. It is a reflection or extension of your business image.

4) Is there a clear and precise call to action?

World Wide WebA clear direction on a website will lead your potential clients or customers to take some form of action, such as filling out a quote request or to take a step to contact your business. Although a website often does not replace a living sales person, it should be a construct to engage your audience as part of your best sales and promotional material.

Putting together a website is not at all like logo design or designing a brochure, although it does take a creative process for graphic design and graphic designers are worth their time. What I mean is website design is more about knowing how to integrate both design elements and technological functionality than it is about putting a few pages on the world wide web. After all, a website is a marketing tool: your 24/7 sales force and it should lead new customers to your door and bring you new and renewed business.

Well how can this be, I hear you ask. That sounds too good to be true…to be able to cut costs and increase revenue and profit?!? That’s right, when your marketing campaigns have become a science to you, you will be able to literally print money with the words you write or better yet, the words you don’t write!

It’s time for you to start thinking of your Internet Marketing efforts like a science experiment. There are variables, results and the ever important control. So the first place you must start is with your control. This means you are going to HAVE to start!

But everything is quite ready!

Internet BrandingGet over it and get something out there. How are you ever going to make changes and improve your internet marketing lead conversions if you don’t have any results to compare?

Start with ONE marketing campaign and test, test, test. Find a keyword or keyword phrase that you want to go after and focus on that for a month. Begin this campaign with one landing page and two separate ads. After you’ve got some relevant data, you will know which ad performs better and you can keep the good ad. Kill the bad ad and write another ad to compare to the ad that is working. That’s right, just because one ad outperformed the other does not mean it is the end all be all ad.

You are going to have to test EVERYTHING!

Now that you’ve got a performing ad in place with a Landing Page that converts, it’s time to start testing different Landing Pages with different ads. Are you beginning to see how finite you can get with this! ALL top producers are freaks about testing ads, copy, landing pages and keywords. Continually testing and adjusting is the only way to truly increase your internet marketing lead conversions.

Marketing Increase GraphGet out there, get committed and take control of your internet marketing efforts. You can absolutely dominate your online market if you simply take the time to test all aspects of your marketing. You will begin to approach this with confidence and a felling of ease because you KNOW what works. In less than 30 days you will begin to see an increase in your internet marketing lead conversion. I hope this helps you on your Journey. Until next time, Happy Marketing!

How I Used Twitter to Drive 500+ Targeted Visitors to My Website in 24 Hours

December 4th, 2009

twitter-1There is an ever growing number of sites where you can submit your content to be rated by users. This can be an amazing way to generate traffic to your website. I created a new twitter account yesterday, and with in 24 hours was able to get over 500+ click-throughs on my links. Just think about that for a second. On just one social networking site where all you do is update your status, I was able to generate 500 targeted leads to my websites.

How Did I Drive Traffic Using Twitter?

hootsuite_iconI used another website called hootsuite to schedule posts to my twitter account ever 5 minutes, and then once an hour when I got tired of typing. I followed as many people with similar interests as I could, and I made my posts very intriguing and mysterious. I used a method called the Zeigarnik effect. I will tell you more about that in a minute, but first let me tell you a little bit more about myself.

I have been a Asheville web designer for the last 2 months, although I’ve been into web design for 11 years. I create stimulating graphics and animation that have helped my clients establish an online presence. I am always available for worth while projects. I am also a DJ/Producer and have been playing music all my life. I have pictures to prove it. I have many interests like marketing, the law of attraction, quantum physics, healthy living, spirituality, dancing, juggling, magic, art and travel, and I joy myself in being of service to others.

Now, back to the Zeigarnik effect. What I’m about to share with you is a very powerful marketing technique, and should always be used for good not evil. With that said, here is what Wikipedia has to say about the Zeigarnik effect:

wiki“In psychology, the Zeigarnik effect states that people remember uncompleted or interrupted tasks better than completed tasks.

Soviet psychologist Bluma Zeigarnik first studied the phenomenon after her professor, Gestalt psychologist Kurt Lewin, noticed that a waiter had better recollections of still unpaid orders.

In Gestalt psychology, the Zeigarnik effect has been used to demonstrate the general presence of Gestalt phenomena: not just appearing as perceptual effects, but also present in cognition.

The Zeigarnik effect suggests that students who suspend their study, during which they do unrelated activities (such as studying unrelated subjects or playing games), will remember material better than students who complete study sessions without a break.”

So, that’s what I did. I would write awesome little one-liners that made people have to click on my links just to find out what I was talking about. You can use these same techniques to explode your downline if you’re into home based business opportunities. I usually try to stay away from them, but this one really grabbed my attention. I really think this is a great idea, and something that could really make you a lot of money if you work just a few hours a day. Even just a few minutes. Click here to see what I mean…

To your success!!!
